Updated: Oct 2, 2022

Tuesday Technniques!

In this session I explain some of the jargon used on sewing pattern pieces, why you might want to trace off your sewing patterns and top tips to make that quick and easy to do.

So if you have ever thought "What are all these triangles for and why do all these pieces have a two headed arrow on them?" then be sure to watch as I bust the jargon.

Equipment that you need to trace off patterns:

  • Needle wheel

  • Cutting mat - the bigger the better (I use A1)

  • Pencil

  • Ruler

  • Pattern weights/pins to hold the pattern pieces still. You could also use tinned foods!

  • Table or flat surface

  • Pattern paper (50gsm especially if tracing using traditional techniques)

Suppliers of sewing pattern paper:

I'd love to hear about your thoughts on tracing sewing patterns - have you tried it, if not do you think you might in the future? Let me know in the comments about your thoughts on patterns and any questions you may have.

The next video in this series (available 24th Nov 2020) covers how to get the best fit with multi-size patterns including how to pick the right size to make.
